Sunday Music

Warning: A little self-indulgence ahead! Since I saw Team Robespierre, Japandroids, & Matt and Kim at the 1st Universalist Church Tuesday night, here in Philadelphia, I thought I would share a song a Youtuber taped from the concert. The show was one of the best $10 I ever spent. Good times!

Also, I must post a song from Team Robespierre. I know, I am lame, I did not know who they were before I saw them. But, now I know, and they rock!

updates

On Wednesday, 1 July, I arrived in Philadelphia. Thanks to two research fellowships, I will remain in the City of Brotherly Love until the end of August.

Yesterday, I began my one-month tenure at the American Philosophical Society. So far, so good. I met a few of the other fellows and learned a little about their fascinating projects. I also began to read the records of Eastern State Penitentiary. The APS Library closed early yesterday for the reading of the Declaration of Independence -- a masterpiece meant to be read and heard.

Today, I think I will visit the Mütter Museum, whose website describes itself "as a valuable resource for educating and enlightening the public about our medical past and telling important stories about what it means to be human." I can't wait!

back in Beverwyck, but not for long

On Saturday, I returned from a three-week research trip to the Library of the New-York Historical Society. The trip was a smashing success: I read many valuable and indispensable sources for my project; met a handful of interesting doctoral candidates and senior scholars; and had a wonderful time working with the extremely helpful and friendly staff at the New-York Historical Society.

I spent two of the three weeks with my cousins on City Island and the last week with my Aunt and her partner in Parsippany, NJ. During the trip, I met one of my Concrete University colleagues for a delicious hamburger lunch at Big Nick's (2175 Broadway). I also met another friend for dinner and beer sampling at the Heartland Brewery near Times Square. She sweetly burned a copy of Deerhunter's intoxicating CD from last October and last month's hypnotic EP for me. I began to listen to it yesterday and listened to it some more today. It's quite groovy. Here's a sample:

This afternoon I depart once again. This time, I travel to the Land of Crumbling Shoe Factories for 2.5 weeks. Then, on 1 July, I travel to the City of Brotherly Love for a two-month fellowship adventure. No doubt this will be a busy summer; I hope it will also be a productive one.

Dear reader, your humble scribbler inquires, what are your summer plans?
