Sunday Reading List

Dear Readers,

A reading list functions as a map of knowledge. To increase the efficiency of this week's list I have limited it to 7 blogger posts, 6 print-media articles, and two bonuses (one music review and one graffiti art slideshow). I hope this week's list is less overwhelming and more informative than last week's list. Feel free to share your comments on my recommendations or suggest your own items.

Happy reading,

Ortho

Blogger Posts:

  1. "Productivity Performance Art" [Chronofile.net]
  2. "The lonesome crowded midwest" [Shake Your Fist]
  3. "Penis Power" [The Assimilated Negro] (Some readers may find the content of this post objectionable. You're warned. Proceed at your own risk!)
  4. I find the blogging style of Woman Honor Thyself hypnotic. Check out her mash-up of multi-color and multi-formatted text, clip art, photos, unique hyphenation and spelling, cartoons, and faces. The form of "Houston, I think we have a problem..." is its content. [Woman Honor Thyself]
  5. "Is Foucault popular?" [Foucault Blog]
  6. "Painting 8: Tell me something" [a beautiful revolution]
  7. "Reversible Brutality" [Love and Terrorism]
Print Media:
  1. "'I Was Sick During the Genocide': Remembering to Forget in Contemporary Rwanda" [Dissent Magazine]
  2. "Philip K. Dick: A pulp sci-fi writer finally wins respect" [International Herald Tribune]
  3. The New York Times' "Taking the War Out of a Child Soldier" may remind you of "A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Child Soldier".
  4. "Genetic Testing + Abortion = ???" [NY Times] may remind you of "Outlines of Cybernetic Eugenicism". You may laugh or roll your eyes today, but tomorrow you shall see that Ortho's prophecies of the future shall appear.
  5. "The Flight From Iraq" [NY Times Magazine]
  6. "Roving in the Red Zone: Inside Sadr City" [Asia Times]
Bonus:

Pitchfork reviews Dan Deacon's "Spiderman of the Rings". To see Deacon in action navigate toward: "Big Big Big Big Big" and "White and Nerdy". I highly recommend "White and Nerdy".

Over at The New Yorker's cyberspace, you can view some of graffiti artist Bansky's art: "In Plain Sight".

I really enjoyed Sherry Turkle's article Can You Hear Me Now? on Forbes. It influenced my thoughts and my blog entries a lot this week.

Thanks for the linking, Ortho.

Thanks for the link to the Forbes' article! I must admit, it's not a magazine I regularly read.
